“Hello Elders . . . What city do we live in?”
woah. HOW DO I START THIS?! Remember how I kind of liked my mission last time I wrote all ya’ll? You might have thought I loved it then, and so did I, but then I got to 5 Mile Prairie. AKA: ‘SMILE’ PRAIRIE. Now I know what love is. 😉 I don’t know where to start…. SO I’ll just start with the week.
Sunday Night:
Transfer calls. “Your sweeping into 5-mile with Sister Busath.”
Me: You’re Joking.
Elder Adam: I don’t joke.
Monday: emailing. Seeing Sister Busath for the first time since we got the news.
Speechless. Laughter. And more speechlessness.
Tuesday: uniting to be companions.
Speechlessness. Laughter. Pure joy.
Okay… there wasn’t that much speechlessness… we were talking non-stop, because we are best friends. Let’s just say, 3 weeks ago, after an exchange with Sister Busath, I wrote in my journal that my DREAM would be to be companions with Sister Busath one day, if I could pick any Sister that I hadn’t been companions with. . . . Let me tell you, dreams come true.
Now let’s keep in mind, leaving Deer Park was hard- you all know how much I loved it- and I had to pray that I would feel God’s hand in it all, and I asked Him to help me feel His love. Well let’s just say I have felt more love this last week than I know how to receive.
We were picked up by our ward mission leaders wife, Sister Startin, on Tuesday, and I immediately was excited. Sister Startin dresses like, talks like, and acts just like Brighton. My sister. So… you could say we get along. Her husband is the greatest ward mission leader I’ve ever known. We had appointments set up for us less than an hour after we got there, and he has been filling our schedule ever since, along with the rest of this amazing ward.
Shortly after getting in the car with Sister Startin, Sister Busath and I learned that we would be serving with Elders in our ward. OUR WARD HAS TWO SETS OF MISSIONARIES. Not sure if you know this, but that is RARE, and it’s amazing. and inspired. I can just FEEL that this area is about to catch on fire and I can’t tell you how fun it is to work with missionaries in the SAME WARD BOUNDARIES. The ‘Smile’ Elders. They are the greatest. They also swept into the area.
SO if you are getting this, they just dropped 4 new missionaries into one ward. SO the ward is PUMPED. And the ward hasn’t had Sisters since they can remember… So we have been treated like…. like people that are really cool. We were also homeless all week. Or as Sister Busath says, Houseless, because home is where the heart is and we have hearts. So members just took us in and we moved around, meeting all the BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL families here in smile.
We called the assistants on Tuesday night, when we realized we don’t know anything, and asked them how to do this. I’ve swept into areas before, but we got here without an area book, or any records, or ANYTHING. No car. No phone. No records. No book of mormons. No house. Nothing. Elder Lohan, an assistant who just left ‘Smile’ Prairie, gave us some comforting advice that night, “Well, you are basically opening a new area. Good luck!”
To show how much we didn’t know, we had to call the Elders and ask what city we were in. Turns out we are in Spokane. . . That’s embarrassing.
You can’t blame us though, the first three days here on the praire everything was covered in FOG. THICK FOG. and we couldn’t see anything. Now we know the area really well, because we basically learned it blind. 🙂
Also, to top off the first night, I found out I was suppose to be collecting reports from the sisters because I was Sister Training Leader. That seemed to be left out when I got transfer calls. 🙂 I love it though. What a blessing to get to know the sisters.
Living on the Prairie HAS BEEN SO FUN. Sister Busath and I don’t even know how to express our gratitude for how amazing this is. SO we just work. It has been amazing to talk to so many new people this week, even in the most awkward of circumstances. I am so grateful we just do it. It makes the work SO fun. And we are awkward, but we do our best.
The ‘Smile’ Elders, in our first day working with them asked me why I say everything weird. I think I just have this deep desire to be totally original and unique, so I don’t want to even talk like normal people…. or maybe I’m just awkward. Either way, I love being a missionary, and I love this work. I am so grateful that the Lord makes up for my weaknesses, no matter what they are.
I know that as we turn to the Savior and serve him with all of our heart might mind and strength, He will give us the abilities we need to move forward this work. We have the spirit, and the gifts of the spirit come with that! I feel that the enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, can truly be the spiritual gifts we are able to recieve to become more like our Savoir and move forward His work. I am grateful for those gifts. I am grateful for my Savior. I am grateful for my companion and my mission and the beautiful SMILE PRAIRIE WARD I get to serve in.
This week EVERYTHING was frosted over. SO EVERYTHING WAS PERFECTLY WHITE. But not like when it’s covered in snow, it was frosted over in perfect detail. 🙂 I can’t even express how beautiful it is here. Ah. I am just grateful.
I promise the Church is True and Jesus Christ is My Savior. This is HIS CHURCH. The Book of Mormon is the EVIDENCE of these things. I know it. I will forever live it. And I CERTAINLY love it.
“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;” 2 Nephi 21:2
When we are filled with the spirit we will become like our Savior Jesus Christ and adopt his qualities! Act on the things you learn and feel. Change. It will bring you JOY!
Love,
Sister Meservy.
